[ARCHIVED] Bridgeton Parks and Recreation Announces Completion of Tree Inventory; MDC TRIM Grant

Bridgeton Parks and Recreation is proud to announce the completion of an inventory of trees within the city limits that are maintained by city staff. The inventory was recently completed by Davey Resource Group and encompasses 2,016 trees within city right-of-ways and parks. The information on the health of each tree will help city staff prioritize and track tree trimming, maintenance, and removal.

The inventory was made possible with funds received through the Missouri Department of Conservation’s TRIM (Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance) Grant program. The program is designed to assist government entities and non-profits throughout the state with the management, improvement, and conservation of trees and forests on public land.

Among the information collected for each tree was location, species, size, health, and recommendations for maintenance.

The inventory determined that of the 2,016 trees surveyed, 10% were pin oak, followed by 8% sweet gum, 6% sugar maple and green ash. The other 70% is comprised of multiple other species. These trees provide our community with many benefits: it is estimated that they save our community $49,440 by conserving 7,974,125 gallons of water. They improve air quality by saving 3,367 pounds of pollutants, along with many other benefits to property value, greenhouse gas emissions, and more.
